TCIFA's Soccer Scramble a putting success

(TCI-GIS) -- The Fourth Annual Soccer Scramble that took place in Providenicales on Sunday, May 3, proved to be a success by all that participated.

The four-person net scramble which was cancelled last year as a result of World Cup participation and the September hurricanes, is put on annually by the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) - in collaboration with premier jeweler Jai’s - saw 23 teams competing to be named the Scramble’s overall champion.

Taking place at the Provo Golf and Country Club, the teams teed-off at 1:30PM, with the first returning at 5pm, after a lively afternoon of play, with 17 prizes awarded.

$9,250 was raised from the 18-hole golf tournament and raffle, with all proceeds to be used by TCIFA for its Youth Development Programme 2009, and other initiatives put on by the organization.

In conjunction with the scramble, the TCIFA also ran a grand raffle witth first prize being a Jai’s diamond watch valued at $1,000 won by Jasmin Coles, and put back into the pot to be auctioned off; the second prize - $750 cash - went to Charlie from Kischos; third prize, two tickets to attend the 3rd annual Le Reve Gala Ball (valued at $500) going to John Gill; and fourth prize, a one-night stay at The Grace Bay Club and three-course meal for two at Anacaona (The Grace Bay Club) which went to Mike O’Brian.

Other prizes included a Digicel Blackberry phone each being won by Syed Hassam and the Misick and Stanbrook law firm, with the firm putting the phone back in the pot to auction off and eventually being won by Candace Hanchell, President of the Women’s Football League. Sandy McLilland and Joy Greenwood each won a dinner for two at O’Soliel; and Richard Homily won a heavy-duty hiking/backpack donated by Phil Shearer.

The winning team consisted of Mike Adamo, Mike Bookalam, Jamal Misick, and Bob Elingson-Lewis, with a net of 54.87.

Vice President of the TCIFA, James Slattery said the support from the golfers and those that participated in strong numbers was very well received by the association, and “my hope is that persons continue to contribute to the association and its initiatives.”
