Letter: A response from Air Turks and Caicos

Published on Monday, December 14, 2009 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

For the record, Air Turks and Caicos wishes to correct the misinformation contained in your article of 5 December 2009, entitled: Anti UK protest fizzles out in Grand Turk, in which you stated: 'the party resorted to bringing in protesters from Provo via Air Turks and Caicos, which is owned and operated by former Premier Michael Misick’s nephew, Lyndon Gardiner. Sources within ATC have indicated the flight(s), which normally charge $ 200 per person, were provided to the PNP gratis.'

In fact, AirTAC did not provide free transportation to this event and does not provide free transportation for political functions for any party. While Chairman Lyndon Gardiner does happen to be the nephew of former Premier Michael Misick, a fact that you mention every time you print his name as if it is part of his C.V., he has never participated in politics, even while remaining personally loyal to his family. Although you cite 'sources within ATC' for your information, you did not take the trouble to verify this statement with anyone in an actual position to know, including anyone in our Accounting Department.

The organizers of the protest chartered the aircraft and paid in full, in advance, as we require from all our customers. Air Turks and Caicos has the largest aircraft available for charter, which was the logical reason we were the airline of choice, not political preference. For future reference, anything you wish to know about our company can be obtained by contacting either myself or our PR Officer, Ms. Elanor Finfin, and we will be happy to direct you to the appropriate department.

We previously responded to another article of yours via your automated submission that requires you to validate your email address, and although we went through the validation process, the letter was never published. I hope that in the interest of fair-mindedness you will publish this letter. If there are any additional steps we need to go through, please let me know.
