Email To Friend Print Version | The Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) recently held its first members’ annual general meeting for 2010. The underlying message of the meeting was that the Association will be ramping up marketing efforts to promote the destination in 2010.
In the AE’s report Caesar Campbell, CEO of the TCHTA provided members with a review of the initiatives carried out by the Association throughout 2009, and looking ahead noted that a number of marketing and promotional initiatives are already underway for the coming year. One of the activities being held this week includes a sales blitz in Texas, prior to the commencement of the new direct American Airlines flight from Dallas to Providenciales. A number of resorts have committed to the sales blitz which is expected to increase awareness of the new flight schedule while acting as a platform to promote hotels and tourism in the TCI.
Also planned for the year is the continuation of the TCI Shines Campaign which has been successful in raising the public’s consciousness of our environmental landscape and the importance of protecting our islands’ natural surroundings.
The TCHTA is also working closely with the Crime Stoppers Unit and following their donation of an electric vehicle to the Police Force to patrol the Grace Bay area in 2009, the Association will continue to encourage the security of visitors by working with their members to secure links between the resorts.
In order to generate promotional, educational and training activities, various committees have been re-vitalized and strengthened by the TCHTA with the addition of new members. Karen Whitt, President of the TCHTA stated, “It is encouraging to see our members dedicating their time in supporting many of the TCHTA’s initiatives. Their continued commitment will help make 2010 a productive and rewarding year for our tourism industry. Working together as a united front we are optimistic that we will see a turnaround in tourism figures for our islands this year. We will be reaching out more than ever to our allied members in these challenging economic times to find ways in which to collectively use our limited resources in promoting the hospitality industry locally and abroad.
Whitt continued, “In addition, to working closely with our existing members we are also appealing to any local businesses affected by tourism, to become allied members, so they too can have a voice and be a part of the coming year’s activities, which are guaranteed to have a positive impact on tourism, generating business and the local community at large”.
The TCHTA has also announced that Chloe Zimmerman, founder and owner of Marco Travel, has been elected to represent the TCHTA’s allied members. In addition to this new position, the TCI Airports Authority has also been appointed an ex officio member on the Board. | | | | Reads : 250 |
